Bread and Broth 4 Kids Ministry

Many parishioners participate in Bread and Broth 4 Kids, a local nonprofit, all-volunteer organization whose mission is to ease hunger in the South Lake Tahoe community.

We contribute financially as well as by serving Monday Night Meals, packing hundreds of bags with food to be distributed weekly to children in local schools, and by serving kids at the weekly Summer Pantry.

In 2023, a Tots program was added to assure specific nutritional items like beans and rice are available to the families of these children.

Veterans Guest House

The Veteran’s Guest House in Reno was founded in the early 1990’s by two Reno veterans. The Guest House provides United States Military service veterans and their families cost-free, welcoming, temporary accommodations while they are receiving treatment at any medical, long-term care or dental facility in the Reno/Sparks area. We financially support this organization.

Galilee Episcopal Camp and Retreat Center

Galilee Episcopal Camp and Retreat Center is the spiritual hospitality arm of the Diocese of Nevada hosting retreats, camps and the parish of St. John in the Wilderness. Over the years, the parish has continued to strengthen its support of Galilee, fulfilling many needs as they arise. In addition, every year our church provides scholarships (called Camperships) to children.

Episcopal Relief and Development

Episcopal Relief and Development supports ministries beyond our immediate community and around the world. St. John and many of our parishioners generously respond to the special requests we make for catastrophic assistance.

Christmas Cheer

Christmas Cheer, whose motto is "love your neighbor as yourself," provides food to community members. St. John collects non-perishable food items, in addition to providing financial support. There are more people than ever who are depending on Christmas Cheer and other food banks to feed their families. If you are unable to bring food to the church, consider bringing food directly to a food bank near you.

Each Christmas, our parish provides countless unwrapped Christmas gifts for Christmas Cheer to distribute to children in the community.
